W. Jones. Pressler was a mapmaker and surveyor for the Texas General Land Office, and his wonderfully detailed 1858 map of the state of Texas expertly displays relief shown by hachures. Hachures are an older representation of quite specific shapes of the land’s terrain. Pressler’s 1858 map, also shows the state’s original land districts as well as longitude West from Greenwich and Washington.
